A Conversation with Noah

Human nature hasn’t changed much over the last few thousand years. So image a conversation something like this about the year 2349 or 2348 BC.
“This is Noah.”
“Yeah. Been lookin’ around. Found you in the directory under “P.” You know, “Preacher.” You’re the only one listed. What do you preach?”
“Grace that’s found in God’s righteousness.”
“Oh? ‘Righteousness.’ Isn’t that what’s right?”
“Yes.”
“Well, Noah, what is right?”
“I got this word from God some years back, a word of warning…”
“No! ‘What is right’ is a rhetorical, philosophical question that has no firm, objective answers. You think you have a firm answer on what’s right?”
“Yes. As I was saying, have the right God and the right faith and the proper obedience to Him and you’ll be saved.”
“Saved from what?”
“Destruction.”
“How’s that?”
“A Flood.”
“What’s that?”
“Well, that sort of thing has never happened before, but I believe God.”
“Hmmmm. You must be some sort of religious obscurant. Never heard anything like before. Why would God do such a thing?”
“Well, He’s not pleased, what with all the violence, corruption, continual evil heart thoughts. All people want to do is get married any old way and feast merrily down the stream of time…and do what seems right to self. God as a factor is omitted.”
“What’s wrong with that? Everybody’s doing it. We follow the norm and those norms fluctuate!”
“That’s what’s wrong. The wrong is now called right, and the right as God sees it is too narrow for the fluid changing of behavior standards set by society and popular demand.”
“How big is your assembly?”
“Nine. Actually our number just declined. We lost granddad—it’ll be some time before his record lifespan is broken! Ol’ Methusaleh, the way-back history he could tell! We now have eight total for our get together, and they are there all the time. I appreciate their commitment.”
“Well, I won’t mess with that! And you said only one family? That’s not enough for much of a choir or social status. I’m lookin’ for mega! Something that’s got entertainment! Where there’s tolerance and acceptance, so that I can come just as I am and stay that way! Some weird house you’re building there.”
“All that matters is that it floats. Now we just got to get aboard so the LORD can shut us in…”
“What’s that?”
“A raindrop.”
“A what? …blub…blub.”

Interesting story, Sean.
Looks like God isn’t in the numbers game - after all Noah only “saved” 8 people. And that was after over 100 years of work!
Obedience to God’s comandments is much more important to Him than filling a church full of people, without obeying Him.
