Sermon Review: Uncompromising Holiness
August 22nd, 2007 by Sean
Jesse Morrell is an open air preacher. He travels around and does evangelism at college campuses throughout the US. In addition he travels to churches and preaches indoors occasionally. He is only in his 20s and this sermon may have been done when he was still a teenager. It is called Uncompromising Holiness and it emphasizes the fact that as Christians we need to hunger and thirst for righteousness. We cannot allow ourselves to be satisfied with just being more moral than the world. Though I disagree with Jesse on a number of theological points (he believes in the Trinity and heaven at death), I found this particular sermon to be extraordinary. He clearly articulates the need for the church to be holy before God without compromise.

- What do you think of his TV rule?
- Do you think evangelism is only for certain Christians?
- Did this message convict you?
- Is it too radical? or not enough?
Finally listened to Jesse’s talk. Very worthwhile, and I think he is right about what he says about the state of Christianity at large!
I love his TV rule, except I’d take it a step further and ask why am I watching this stuff on TV at all? ( OK maybe an occasional Nova episode
)
A great book on why TV should be eradicated altogether is “Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television” by Jerry Mander, which is very well written, especially the section on the neurological effects incurred by watching the medium itself.
Back to Jesse - I thought his quote by Leonard Ravenhill bears repeating “The world is not looking for a new definition of Christianity. They’re looking for a new demonstration of Christianity!”
God bless
