TWERT - 5 men, 5 states, 14 days, 1 Gospel

TWERT stands for Two Week Evangelism Road Trip. Myself, Josh, Sal, Joe, and Sean went through New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan preaching the Gospel and visiting the saints. It was a fantastic experience that I wouldn’t hesitate to do again. We saw so many circumstances driven by God that results in so many stories we could talk about it for hours and hours. There is nothing quite like going out and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. Sure at first it is scary, then it is awkward, but after you’ve done it maybe fifty times - it is fun.

The crucial aspect of preaching the Gospel that we were missing was conviction of sin. As a matter of fact it was an aspect of our lives that needed more significance. Sure we were concerned about sin, but not to the degree that God was. To sin is to grieve the heart of God, it is why his Son died. And if a Christian goes on sinning it is like a slap to the face of Jesus. Conviction and repentance first took on a whole bigger meaning in our lives. It is absolutely necessary to live what you’re preaching, otherwise Paul says we would be castaways.
Jesus says that if we are ashamed of Him and His words He will be ashamed of us on the day of judgment. Preachers have said that if you have no desire to win the unsaved then you are probably unsaved yourself. Evangelism is a necessary aspect of a Christians’ life. It causes all things to come into place. To preach the Kingdom message, you have to believe in it - it has to be your hope, why you live. To preach conviction and repentance, you have to be convicted and repentant. And to have a heart for the lost means that you were once lost, but now are found - and you know the difference that makes in your life. Having the desire to go out and preach, to interact and pull the drowning onto life boats shows that as a Christian you are not lukewarm, but hot. The first century Church turned the world upside down because they convicted people of sin, showed them they were lost, and told them the way to enter the Kingdom. Our century is in dire need of the Kingdom message, and there are people out there who want it. Who is going to tell them?
John
Thanks so much for reminding us of the urgency of speaking the gospel message, and also the joy of doing so.
Your article was a real inspiration to me to get out there and speak the message more.

I think something to keep in mind is that JohnO is not naturally an outgoing person. (He would make a lousy salesman). Even so, for 14 days straight he was able to speak the gospel to perfect strangers at a minimum of 1 hour to up to 5 hours per day. This just goes to show all of us that God can and does work with us to accomplish the Great Commission (Mat 28.18-20).
Very true. I normally don’t speak my first word until well after 10am
I could live out in the wilderness in a cave somewhere, just so long as I had a comfy chair and some bookshelves for books
No question that God can transform us to meet His needs.
Where were you preaching? Were you in churches, on the street corner, or where? Just curious.
