I just came across this incredible resource for learning New Testament Greek. The site features an animated guy who teaches Greek using a pretty fancy interactive web interface. I’m not sure how good it is from the perspective of someone who has never had exposure to Greek, but it looks like it starts from the very basics and go right through all of the grammar and vocabulary basics.
I would also like to mention that Karl has done a basic Greek course and it is available online as well. The advantage of Karl’s is that he uses modern pronunciation which may be helpful if you decide to transition to modern Greek later on (or if you just want to impress the waitress at the diner).
Last weekend we held an evangelism conference at Living Hope Community Church in upstate NY. During the conference we focused on what the biblical gospel is and how to speak the gospel of the kingdom and the cross to a world in desperate need. The weekend included teachings, an interactive video workshop, role playing, and an evening out at the park. We wanted to provide an opportunity for those who wanted to try out what they had learned while at the same time not forcing anyone who wasn’t ready to do evangelism. Fortunately a good number of people did speak to people at the park and we had a wonderful time discussing these encounters as well as some related questions regarding evangelism in general Saturday night. The teachings from the conference are now available for free download.
Richard Dawkins is arguably the world’s foremost atheist apologist and is the author of the recent bestseller, The God Delusion. He along with some other notable atheists (Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennet, Sam Harris, and Michael Shermer) have been producing books, launching websites, and traveling around America giving talks. Recently, I listened to a debate between Richard Dawkins and John Lennox. They are both professors at Oxford, Dawkins specializes in evolutionary biology and Lennox specializes in mathematics and philosophy. John Lennox’s book, God’s Undertaker: Has Science Buried God? demonstrates that science and theism are compatible and that the Christian notion of God is not dependent on gaps in scientific understanding. The debate was held on October 3, 2007 in Birmingham, Alabama and lasted nearly two hours. The structure was a bit cumbersome because the moderator insisted on working through Dawkin’s book, The God Delusion, point by point with Dawkins giving his argument first followed by Lennox providing a rebuttal. Even so, I found the interchange stimulating and well worth the time to listen if you are at all curious about the “New Atheism” movement.
Here is an article that was posted on the Abrahamic Faith around the world msn group. I found it really interesting and thought provoking, so I thought I would share it.
It’s very hard to post after a blitzkrieg of sorts involving theological conference papers. I trust that it was fun. Unfortunately I couldn’t go, I was stuck working back at North Hills.
It is hard following up such great scholarship as those who write papers for the Theological Conference and sometimes I find it quite daunting to come up against such great minds. I found myself reading some of the papers and I got stuck on Kent Ross’s paper on Heresy, or at least the so-called heresy of the Radical Reformation. For those of you who are unsure of what the Radical Reformation was, it was a part of the Anabaptist movement that desired to get back to the truths of the Bible, to get back to the original teachings of Jesus and the apostles. Radical meaning “back to the roots” they desired to get back to Christianity’s roots which are where many of us in that line of thinking get our Unitarian and soul sleep beliefs, from this desire to get back to the roots of Christianity.
Hey all, just a word of encouragement to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the spirit (ICOR5:8)..that along with (IIPETER1:1-8) let us partake of that great grace that will always make a way for God’s glory to be revealed.
My good friend called about 1pm Saturday to say he was “a little stressed..” and was looking for a pledge of sorts for a helping hand..he went on to say that while he and his wife were at the grocery store, the two eldest (of six) children were babysitting and a fire had broken out and everyone was safe..but he wouldn’t know the extent of the damages until the fire dept said he was able to go back inside..
I thought I would share with everyone a very interesting little pamphlet that I inherited from my parents that was a part of their theology study materials. I don’t know a date for this article, (there is none on the pamphlet), but I’m going to guess that it is from sometime between 1950-1970. I haven’t been able to find much on the author from internet searches and I haven’t seen the pamphlet anywhere else at all. I think though, it fits perfectly with everything else here on KingdomReady. Here it is with all bolding and quotes presented just as in the original. Enjoy!
I regret I won’t be dedicating the time that this merits, but with help from the holy spirit, hopefully my normal bleating will be usable by Him.
I want to mention the phenomenon of looking to everyone else for God’s revelation to us..anyone else realize they do this?? I find that the hardest thing to do when I really need to, is to fall on my face before God and cry out for His Presence and power, or His Grace and Love..Even sometimes when I should be crying out to God and instead I pick up the psalms, I’m comforted, and blessed, but I haven’t actually dealt with my heart’s need for direct personal contact. I know I could probably word this much better, more comprehensively, but this is where God needs to help.
Here is the incredible story of a 92 year-old woman of faith who preached to her mugger in a Walmart parking lot. He had gotten into her car just before she started it to drive home and demanded that she give him all of her money. She told him no and instead preached to him.
