The Birth of Christianity

Acts 1:1 First account is in the book of Luke, which ends with the ascension. Luke 24:40-53. The book of Acts begins with the ascension.

Verse 5 The promise of the Father is to be baptized with the holy spirit. Luke 24 said it was to be clothed with power from on high.

Verse 7 God has the time of His Kingdom fixed by His own authority. No man knows the times or epochs. Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32; Luke 21:24; Acts 17:26; Ephesians 1:10; I Thessalonians 5:1 and 2. Epoch - an event or time marked by an event that begins a new period.

Verse 8 Rather than being overly concerned about when, focus on your responsibility to be witnesses.

Acts 2:1 The place was the temple

Verse 4

Filled with holy spirit means being overwhelmed or powered with the spirit. Completely influenced, demanding full attention.

Acts 1:5 Baptized with the holy spirit = to be filled with the holy spirit. Water baptism was always a complete immersion.

Acts 2:11 Speaking in tongues is speaking the mighty deeds of God. KJV - the wonderful works of God.

Verse 17 Pentecost was the beginning of the Christian Church and the beginning of "the last days."

Verse 20 When these things happen, the "last days" will end.

Verse 34 David is not in heaven, Jesus is in heaven.

Verse 35 Quoted from Psalm 110 which explicitly refers to Christ. Jesus made this plain in Matthew 27:42-45 and his apostles in Acts 2:34; I Corinthians 15:25; Hebrews 1:13; 10:12 and 13.
